Techno-social addiction - a rising phenomenon

In consulting companies on the impact of this new form of addiction – the phrase “techno-social” is proposed to reflect the dependency of society on technology. Smartphones and social media are parts and main mediums of the new age of technosociety: the permanent liaison of technology and society, impacting how people think and live. We are not capable of separating these two things anymore. Time spent on the smartphone is significantly increasing through the use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram or Twitter and the psychological dependency of staying permanently connected leads to a significant loss of time control.

Issues, such as sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety and an increased level of stress, are linked to this “new” form of addiction. It is crucial for companies of all sizes and industries and individuals to be aware of this development to change their organisational structures accordingly to reflect the societal change.

Please be aware - potentially this development is already irreversible. The best we can to is to analyse, educate and mitigate the impact.
